Oil collection
Almost any type of used oil can be easily processed and turned into bio diesel. This includes cooking oil, used car oil, industrial lubricants and even animal fat. Although there are some organizations that are collecting this oil to be used as bio diesel feed stock, we are only collecting a very small amount of the oil that can be potentially collected. Worst than that is the fact that when this oil is not collected for reuse it is thrown away and contaminates our soil and our environment.
Often collecting small amounts of cooking oil from restaurants doesn’t make financial sense, because the cost to operate collection trucks, tanks and all the necessary equipment compared with the relatively small amount of oil does not make sense. In most cases if you can find a source that will generate larger amounts of oil like a large commercial plant that becomes more financially sensible for bio diesel manufacturers.
Our idea is to find ways that will make it logical to collect even smaller amounts of oil. If the collection of oil was a city project involving high school kids as a community volunteering/ educational project and/ or the city would provide work to unemployed people who are looking for a job, the collection of oil would become a great local town or city project for every community. There are tanks that can be easily installed in any restaurant that will make the collection easy, fast and non intrusive allowing the waste oil to constantly flow to a tank located outside of the restaurant so that the tank can be empties or replaced by an empty tank without interrupting the restaurant business. Oil could and should be collected from every car oil change business, manufacturing facility using industrial lubricants, animal processing facilities generating animal fat and every business generating access oil products.
Once collected, the “dirty” oil can be sold to manufacturers or a community owned manufacturing facility can be easily set up. Turning the old oil into good usable bio diesel is very simple, requires a relatively small investment and a small staff to operate. Turning old oil into bio diesel can become a very profitable business and once a gas station net work is set up, the bio diesel can be sold directly to the gas stations. This model can be offered to business people that would like to start a business in addition to or instead of creating city owned facilities.
We would be willing to create a prototype New York based collection operation as well as a manufacturing facility in order to develop a model that can later be used nationally and internationally
If we were to create the collection and manufacturing proto type we would need to develop a specific business plan, obtain financing and set up the operation.
If we don’t set up the first model operation, we would need some bio diesel experts to provide the knowledge to those that would like to participate. Anyone and/ or any organization that can connect us with local towns or cities that would like to set up such an operation will be quite helpful
Anyone and/ or any organization with bio diesel collection and manufacturing resources and/ or town/ city officials that would like to create this project in their local community and/ or business people that would like to start a local bio diesel business
This would only make sense if local government supported this plan and partnered with us. If local towns and cities can provide the facilities, enforce collection law and support volunteers as well as high school students to participate it would make sense to collect small quantities of oil. As a business project that doesn't partner with local authorities this wouldn't make sense, because businesses that are in the oil collection industry for bio diesel prefer to find greater volume from fewer sources.
The technology is there. There are thousands of people and organizations around the world that collect used oil from businesses to be processed into bio diesel.
We are not actively progressing this project at this time.
Reuse/ recycle instead of throwing away and use as a better fuel (bio diesel)
